Bere Regis Football Club Archive
Established prior to 1885 and steeped in history and tradition, Bere Regis Football Club (BRFC) can claim to be one of the oldest clubs in the world. When professional football was legalized in Britain on July 20 1885, Bere Regis Football Club was founded, and we were inaugural members of the South Hants and Dorset football association from which the Dorset County FA (DCFA) was subsequently formed in 1887.
In those early days, the Club was known as 'The Arabs'.
During the 1920’s Bere Regis won the Mid-Dorset
Village Football League Cup on a number of occasions as well as the
Edmonds and Jesty cup.The 1980s were also a good decade for Bere Regis
F.C. as they continued to win cups and promotion in the Dorset Football
League divisions. The Saturday team won the Bankes' Cup twice in
1984 & 85, whilst, the second team also added to the silver
collection in 1985 by winning the Dorset Division 3 East League Cup.
In the past the club has maintained a tradition for village football by
fielding adult teams on both Saturdays and Sundays.
In the 1980’s Bere also started their 6 a side competition which
has now become the premier senior 6 a side competition in Dorset.
The new millennium has seen a number of changes at the club. The
Saturday side is striving to gain promotion to the Dorset Saturday
senior league, regularly finishing in the top 6 six and in the past few
seasons narrowly missing out on promotion. However, the demise of the
Dorset FA Sunday Football league has meant that there is no longer any
senior Sunday football played at the Rec, but has enabled the club to
enter two teams into the DCFA Saturday league.
