Earl is the ultimate utility player and not just because he is always in the toilet. He has been used in a variety of positions, most memorably in goal in the cup run in which he kept two clean sheets. Most of the season, however, has been spent just in front of the back three, protecting them in a Paul Ince fashion, but with less sendings off. From here. Earle can use his exceptional vision to pick out the willing runners up front, or beat a couple of players before laying off a simple pass to a team mate. Now and again, Earl will wander upfield and use The Hammer to blast a memorable goal past a helpless keeper. Although he freely admits that his best years as a semi-professional are now behind him, on his day Earl still has that je ne sais quoi that stands him head and stomach above the rest. Wolves loss is Beres gain!!
