In a tight game the Drax Arms lost again to the the Antelope. Drax Arms 40 Antelope 46

4th February

The Drax after the previous weeks humiliation were hoping for a home win, which they got. A good natured game against the Kings Arms B, ending in a final score of Drax 54 Kings arms B 48.

28th January

The Drax Arms away to the Sandford, had one of their worse ever results. They did pull back a little after a disastrous start, but the final score was a dissapointing Sandford 59: Drax Arms 38.

P.S. Terrible night, but the Sandford did admit we had the harder questions, but still dreadful!

21st January

After last weeks disappointment of losing by 2 points, the Drax had a good home win, beating the Duke of Wellie B 51 to 41

14th January

Away to top of the league Kings Arms A, the Drax Arms were unlucky not to win in a closely fought match, final score Kings Arms A 49 Drax Arms 47.

7th January 2007

After their two defeats in a row, the Drax Arms started the new year with a win, Stoboro' 41 Drax 47

3rd December

The Drax Arms are once again struggling to maintain their form, away to The Duke Of Wellington C, they crashed to a defeat, DofW C 51 Drax Arms 42. They did however win the beer round by one point.

26th November

The Drax at home had a disastrous first half, they affected a decent recovery but were unable to draw ahead: final score Drax 44 Antelope 47.

19th November

Away to the Kings Arms B the Drax Arms had another win, despite the questions getting harder, it seems: Kings Arms B 25 Drax Arms 39.

12th November

The Drax Arms managed a Lazarus type resurrection against the Sandford. A disastrous first half, the Drax were trailing by 10 points, amazingly they recovered to win Drax 46 Sandford 42

5th November

A welcome win for the Drax Arms against the Duke of Wellington 'B' team. A slow start but the Drax soon go into their stride, final score: Duke of Wellington 'B' 34 Drax Arms 49.

Sunday 29th Oct

The Drax Arms Quiz team kicked off the new season against the Kings Arms A Wareham. A close match, but the Drax lacked the killer punch, final score Drax 47 Kings Arms A 52.

15th January

Away against the Stokeford Inn, the Drax Arms had a slow start, but soon got into their stride. The Drax had a convincing win: Stokeford Inn 30, Drax Arms 55.

8th January

The first game after the long xmas/new year break & the Drax Arms were away to the Kings Arms Stoborough, a new team. A very close contest throughout, ended in a well earned draw: 45 each.

4th December

The Drax at home to the Sandford. An up & down game saw the Drax 6 points behind, entering the final round. By some miracle they pulled ahead, winning 44 to 42 points.

Crushing defeat at the hands of the Antelope, made it three losses in a row for the Drax Arms, 25 points being their lowest ever score.

13th November

Away to the BlackBear, the Drax Arms had a difficult night. A lacklustre start and despite a mid-game rally the score ended up, BlackBear 52:Drax Arms 42. Consolation the Drax won the beer round.

The last game of the season, with the Drax's usual 2nd place confirmed, up against the Duke of Wellington C. The Drax had their worse performance of the season. A total disaster, the Drax went out on a low note losing by twenty points. Final score DofW 61 Drax Arms 41.

With the Sandford already confirmed as league winners, a win for the Drax Arms would ensure (once again) second place. The Drax took an early lead, which they steadily increased. The final score Black Bear 42 Drax Arms 65: Bridesmaids again.

Not a good night for the Drax Arms, away to the Silent Woman, they did not play at their best. The Drax had a small lead until the last round, but couldn't hold on to it, final score Silent Woman 45 Drax Arms 44..

The Drax Arms in their fight to be second in the league yet again, chalked up a win against the Stokeford. An even start, both teams scoring 100% in the first round, saw the Drax then pull ahead, finishing score Stokeford 40:Drax Arms 49.

After 2 defeats in a row, the Drax Arms were not confident, as they played away against the Duke Of Wellington B team

The Drax got off to a disastrous start, but somehow clawed their way back. The start of the final round both teams were level, the Drax amazingly finished ahead, winning 48 points to 44. They rounded off the night, by winning the beer round.

Hi Mervyn,

As you are probably aware on Sunday we beat the Duke of Wellington 35 -30

Unfortunately this will have to be the last game we play in the league, we are really sad to have to leave, but our pub is changing its image and it will no longer serve food in the lounge bar but will be turned into a music bar and we will no longer be able to host home games.

In addition to this Bernie has been allocated more work at the university that will entail going overseas quite a lot in the coming months and we are having problems getting other locals to support the quiz team.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused and wish all the teams in the league the very best.

It was nice to be able to finish with a win!

The Drax Arms winning run is now well and truly at an end. Away to the Antelope, the Drax put up a spirited defence but eventually succumbed to a superior team, losing 56 to 51.

5th December

At home against the Silent Woman, the Drax Arms, saw their winning streak come to an end. A seesaw match ended in a close finish, the Silent Woman winning by one point. The Drax won the beer round, some consolation!!

The Drax Arms have got off too a good start this season, two wins out of two. They had a convincing win over the Duke of Wellington B team, 60 points to 38.However The Drax lost the beer round, on a tie breaker.

7th November - New Season starts with win for Drax Arms

First game of the season, the Drax where up against old rivals The Sandford, who were minus two of their usual team. The Drax made a strong start, holding onto their lead through the entire game: final score Sandford 38 Drax Arms 51.

Drax Arms once again, subject to official confirmation, are the bridesmaids missing out on the top spot and claiming their favourite position of second in the League.

Last game of the season, and the Sandford & Drax Arms met to decide who would catch the Duke of Wellington's bouquet. The Drax took a small, but decisive lead from round one. The game then was even throughout, neither team hardly dropping a point: final score Sandford 57::Drax Arms 58.

29th February 2004

The Drax Arms were away to the Dorset Soldier, for the penultimate game of the season. It was the first visit for the Drax to Corfe Mullen, for what turned out to be a very 'interesting' game; which the Drax won 57 to 42.

22nd February

The Drax Arms seem to have recovered from their mid-season dip, with a convincing home win against the Kings Arms Wareham. The Drax went into an early and convincing lead, which they sustained, winning 55 to 31: they did however lose the beer round!

The Drax Arms are finding this season hard going, they are struggeling to find their form.
Away to the Silent Woman, they slipped behind from round one. A maximum eight points, on stick or twist brought them back level. The last two rounds saw them slip behind again, finishing Silent Woman 56, Drax Arms 49..

Perhaps it was the post-xmas blues,(or something) the Drax at home to the Sandford, crashed to their worse ever defeat. In a low scoring game the Drax scraped a measley 28 points, the Sandford (not much better) 35.

The Drax did have some consolation, winning the beer round.

The Drax, made the trip to the Duke of Wellington, more in hope than expectation. The Duke of Welly C were defending a 100% record. Drax got off to a good start, running neck and neck for the first half of the game. Then the Duke's strength in depth told, forging ahead to win, final score 58 to 47.

7th December

The Drax, were at home for the last game before the Xmas break. Playing new pub on the block, Corfe Mullen's, Dorset Soldier. The Drax got off to a storming start, quickly establishing an early lead, they then seemed to flag in the middle. The Soldier rallied, but were unable to catch the Drax up. Final score Drax 49, to the Soldier's 34.

The Drax Arms were away to the Kings Arms Wareham, realising this would be a tougher match than their previous one. After two rounds, it was honours even, but the Drax then pulled ahead, a lead which they maintained to the end: final score Kings Arms 36, Drax 48.

23rd November 2003

The Drax Arms were home (at last) to a new team, the Duke of Wellington 'A'. Hoping to throw off the bad luck of the two previous weeks, the Drax started strongly. It was soon fairly obvious, that the Boots A team, haven't yet worked themselves in. The Drax cruised to an easy victory, 61 to 12, (if only they were all like that!).

Commiserations to the Duke of Wellington A team for their performance on the 23rd November, being charitable I can only think that they had their drinks spiked, they surely couldn't have still been drunk from celebrating the World Cup win on the Saturday, could they? Anyway they now hold the record for the lowest posted score EVER.

The Drax Arms are not having a brilliant season so far, perhaps they don't travel well!

Away to the Duke of Welllington 'B', the Drax go off too a storming start, leading the Duke by a commanding 14 points. Then the curse of stick or twist, Drax nil, Duke eight. It was down hill all the way for the Drax, final score Duke 50, Drax 49. Some compensation the Drax easily won the beer round.

10TH November 2003

Away to the Antelope, the Drax Arms were their idiosyncratic best. Falling behind immediately, they struggled to lift their game. The stick or twist round, being their chance to catch up, unfortunately they (or I) blew it! scoring nil points. A late rally by the Drax wasn't enought, the final score being Antelope 57:Drax 53.

2nd November

Away to the Stokeford A, the Drax got off to a poor start, but by round three they had pulled ahead. The Stokeford then managed max points (8) on the stick or twist round, the Drax a miserable 2. The lead seesawed up-to the final round, a late spurt saw the Drax pull off a 54:47 win.

26th October

The Drax Arms were at home to the Silent Woman. Normally this is a close match, but surprisingly the Drax went into an early lead, even getting max points on stick or twist!
Despite a disastrous last round, only scoring one point, the Drax Arms won comfortably, Drax 53:Silent Woman 40. Even the beer round went the Drax way.

12th October 2003

The first game of the season, saw the Drax Arms (the Bridesmaids), up against last years winners, the Duke of Wellington 'C' (the Schumachers).

The first round was evens, both teams getting 100%. The Drax then took a small but significant lead. Alas! it did not last, the turning point was the stick or twist round, the Duke of Welly getting max points (8) the Drax only four. The Duke then forged ahead final score Drax 52, Duke 58. The Drax did have the consolation of winng the beer round.

Season 2002 - 2003

16th March 2003

Congratulations to the Duke "C" for retaining the League Championship. However it may have been a different story had not the Drax gone for glory in the 1-2-4-8 round.

The last game of the season, The Drax away to the Duke of Wellington C, (top of the league). The Drax got off to a good start, but by round three the Duke had drawn ahead. The Drax gambled on the last question in the stick-or-twist round and got it wrong, falling 11 points behind. The Drax rallied, and closed on the Duke, but not enough final score Duke 59 Drax 53. Despite a good season, the Drax once again, ended third in the league: roll on next season.

See you again next year, perhaps.

The penultimate game of the season, saw the Drax Arms at home to the Kings Arms Wareham. A very tight first half, hardly a point between the teams. After the beer break, the Drax drew ahead on the two-parters round. They held their lead for the rest of the game finishing Drax 52 Kings Arms 42.

Then disaster! two poor rounds, found the Drax struggling to hold on. After last weeks 'drubbing' and with things so tight at the top, the Drax Arms were desperate for a win. At home to the Quay, the Drax got off to an unpromising start, quickly falling behind. Both teams scored zero on the stick-or-twist, the Quay staying ahead. The final round, last question, gave the game to the Drax.

Final score being Drax 49, the Quay 47: close or what!

The Drax Arms, saw their string of victories brought to an end by The Silent Woman. A lack lustre Drax, seemed unable to even get their names right!; on the other hand, the Silent Woman, richly deserved their 61 to 50 win. Has the curse of being top of the table once again, struck the Drax?

After their previous encounter, when top of the league 'the Sandford' defeated the 'the Drax' by ten points, the Drax were not relishing this encounter. The first half saw both teams neck-and-neck, 32 points each. The Drax seized their opportunity during the 'two parter' round, gaining and holding, a lead of 7 points: finishing the game 55:49. This puts the Drax, in the number one spot. If previous form is any thing to go by, the Drax, is due a major disaster, any time now! watch this space.

12th January 2003

The first game of the new year saw the Drax Arms, up against the Stokeford B. Both teams were late starting, due to some members, unable to shake of their Xmas/New Year hangovers. The Drax took an early lead, which it maintained; the game ending Stokeford B 41: Drax Arms 54.

8th December

The Drax Arms were at home to probably the strongest team in the League, The Duke of Wellington B. Currently holding second place; the Duke were going to be a hard team to beat. After two rounds, the Duke were marginally ahead; it was obviously going to be a tight game. Once again, the Drax seemed to pull inspiration from somewhere and in the last round pulled ahead: final score the Drax 53: the Duke B 48. The top of the league, is looking very tight.

1st December

Once again the Drax Arms, up against the Kings Arms Wareham (A), got off to their usual slow start. The Drax made things even worse, by scoring a resounding zero on the stick or twist round (again); they were saved by the Kings Arms following suite. Then with 'a mighty bound the Drax were free' and with one of their late and much celebrated rallies they finished winners: 53 points to 37.

After a draw and a lose, the Drax Arms, were not looking forward to taking on top of the table, Stokeford A. Both teams started well, with the Drax Arms drawing slightly ahead, by the end of round three. Round four (stick or twist) was a disaster for the Drax scoring nil, while the Stokeford scored, eight points maximum. At the end of round seven it was even: 49 to 49. The last round, saw a sudden spurt by the Drax, finishing 59 to 54. The evening was rounded off by the Drax winning the beer round: Bere Regis triumphant.

The Drax Arms v the Duke of Wellington 'B' always produces an interesting result. Even though the Drax played well, pulling out some good answers, from the back of the brain. The Duke of Wellington were even better, winning a high scoring game: 61 points to 51. There's always next week, and we're at home!

Once again the Drax Arms had a poor (for poor, read disastrous start) and by the end of round 2, they were trailing by six points. They then pulled ahead and at the end of round 5, were leading by, 9 points. Round 7, saw them ahead by 1 point, at the end of round 8 (the final round) level pegging, 41 points each: unbelievable! They were beaten in the beer round.

Playing away to the Silent Woman, the Drax Arms, once again had a poor start.

The first and second rounds left them trailing by five points. The Drax recovered after half time and in round six, pulled ahead by 4 points; final score Drax Arms 48 : Silent Woman 41.

20th October 2002

The Drax Arms, after they're drubbing last week, recovered some 'respect' with an at home win. The game was against a new team, the Antelope, (actually not a new team at all, the Kings Arms, Wareham B, that was). The Drax led all the way, finishing a very respectable: 55 points against 37. 13th October 2002

An on form Sandford Arms, brought the Drax Arms down to earth in last Sundays quiz. The Drax started badly, with a disastrous first round; by mid game, they had struggled back to draw level. The Sandford, then steadily pulled ahead: the final score being, Sandford 57 Drax Arms 47. The Drax paying the price for indecision, their fatal flaw! The final humiliation; thrashed in the beer round.

6th October 2002

The second game of the season and the Drax Arms, are once again at home. Despite a wobbly rounds 3 & 5, the Drax pulled themselves together and emerged the victors, beating the Stokeford B, 57 points to 44.

29th September 2002

As (sadly) the only pub carrying the banner for Bere Regis, the Drax Arms sallied forth on Sunday the 29th of Sept. to take part in the first game of the season. With new resident and Quiz member Mary Chamberlain, they scored a win over the Kings Arms, Stoborough, 57 to 41. Unfortunately the Drax bombed on the beer round: such is life!

Season 2001 - 2002

Royal Oak played the last match of the season at home to Stokeford A. A very close match ending in a win for the Oak 48-46. Sadly, The Oak lost the beer leg.

There was a distinct "End of Term" atmosphere on the final game of the season. The Drax Arms, (throwing caution to the winds) piped the Quay on the last round, by two points. Final score Drax 43 Quay 41. Roll on next year.

Congratulations to the Duke “C” team for winning the league and retaining the cup, although they narrowly lost to the Duke “B” last week both the Drax and the Sandford also lost, thus gifting the league to the Duke “C” Don’t forget the Carnival 2002 Quiz in the Quay on 7th April, the Xmas edition was also won by the Duke “C” team – don’t let them win again, they can’t handle the Champagne.
